Magnolia Pictures has debuted the trailer for the chilling Sundance documentary Blackfish, directed Gabriela Cowperthwaite, about orcas in captivity.

OKAY, WE NEED TO REBLOG THE FUCK OUT OF THIS. EVEN IF YOU’RE NOT AN ANIMAL PERSON, YOUR FOLLOWERS NEED TO SEE THIS. ESPECIALLY DURING THE HEIGHT OF VACATION SEASON. DO NOT SUPPORT SEA PARKS WITH CAPTIVE WHALES. IT’S NOT ENVIRONMENTAL PROPAGANDA (I can’t believe I even used those words) IT’S A REAL ISSUE AND IT’S NOT A MATTER OF PROOF, IT’S A MATTER OF COVERING IT UP AND IGNORING IT!

WOW NO CAN WE ACTUALLY TALK ABOUT THIS FOR A MINUTE????

Yes, I get your point of a lot of the whales being taken from the sea and put in what is basically huge bathtubs but you know what SEA WORLD ALSO DOES???? THEY BREED THEM AND THE BABIES ARE RAISED IN CAPTIVITY!!! WOW OH WHAT A BEAUTIFUL PIECE OF INFORMATION!!! NOT ALL WHALES IN THESE PARKS ARE BROUGHT IN FROM OUTSIDE WATERS!!!!!!! I HAVE HAD FAMILY MEMBERS WHO WORKED AT SEA WORLD TELL ME 90% OF ORCAS AT CALIFORNIA’S SEA WORLD ARE BORN AND RAISED IN CAPTIVITY. 

So, even with that being said: YES THERE IS ALWAYS A CHANCE ANY WHALE IN A PARK WHETHER RAISED IN CAPTIVITY OR BROUGHT IN FROM SEA WILL ATTACK THE TRAINER because hey guess what? ORCAS ARE ACTUAL HUGE ASSHOLES WHO KILL FOR FUN.

But you know what? People pay to see it and it brings in the money. Not everyone is going to care like animal activists. So if it makes you feel better, START A PETITION to make sure whales are no longer brought in from open waters. But seriously, this movie is going to make people think Sea World and other sea parks are terrible people to their animals. They aren’t. It’s media propaganda and it’s bullshit. So don’t go starting a riot just because of some movie and ONE WHALE WHO WAS BROUGHT IN FROM OCEAN WATERS is information enough. Do your research, please.

excuse me but i don’t think it makes a big difference. animals that aren’t domesticated will still act wild because they have instincts and hard wired reflexes to things, regardless of whether they are born in captivity or the wild. non domesticated animals are wild animals and they can act like it!! orcas are meant to live in huge territories of ocean, they migrate, they hunt in packs, and all those behaviors are hard wired into their brains. so when you raise one in a tank, no matter how big it is, there’s going to be something wrong with that orca because it’s environment is too small for what it needs. and unless the park also has a whole pod of whales, that orca is going to be raised with severe social deprivations too, regardless of how many humans it sees every day.

it’s not just the problem of bringing orcas away from their home in the sea, it’s the problem of not being able to take care of them properly and using them for our own entertainment and money. you don’t think that’s wrong, to abuse living animals for our own entertainment and so some rich people can make money off of ticket prices? and what the hell is a petition going to do about anything? the problem lies in that people don’t see a problem, and with something like this people can realize that yeah this is wrong and we should be working to protect these animals, not cage them and train them to do cute tricks for us.

And tilikum was pulled from the wild at an early age. If a dog was born in captivity would you still confine it in a small crate for its entire life
